Plains of Sorrow Story
Several hundred years ago, during the feudal era in Midgard, there was a massive battle waged on a plain known as the Plain of Sorrows.
It had been named that because there was a legend surrounding it of two lovers that met on this plane and were slaughtered by their own families.
You see, their families were from opposing regencies, an old grudge that ran almost as deep as their family histories. Their ancestors had used to be allied nations, ruled by brothers.
One day the eldest brother paid a visit to the younger brothers castle. As soon as he entered the gates he was arrested under suspicion of sedition and treason.
The younger of the two had been spying on his brother, keeping tabs on who left and entered the castle. He found out that an assassin that had attempted to murder him had in fact been hired by his brother. to make things worse his wife has been slain instead of himself.
The eldest brother denied nothing and was executed by the younger brother himself.
This caused a rift between the two nations, then there was a war that stretched on for several decades. Countless lives were lost until one day the younger brother, now old and senile, ordered a truce agreement be made. Shortly after the terms were accepted by both nations he committed suicide.
All was peaceful for a while, until a certain person came to power; the daughter of the brother that betrayed his blood.
She wanted revenge at any cost and annulled the treaty. Both nations waged war until their own destruction until all that was left of the two glorious castles was a barren plain.
We go forward another few hundred years, two new nations now stand in the places of the previous ones. And now history repeats itself, with a twist.
Instead of a betrayal of brothers, it was a fettered love that sparked the wars. Again the Plains of Sorrow were drenched with the blood of hundreds of thousands and again nations were disintegrated.
Since there no one has dared build an empire on those plains for fear that they could be cursed.
This was until one bold mason took up a calling he had had in a dream. It was to build a monument to ward off evil. So he began his work. three years he toiled away, working on a platform that could hold a statue that would pale even those of the Gods.
Then on a summers afternoon, while he put the finishing touches on the platform the central pillar collapsed causing a depression to form. The mason sighed and quite for the day.
When he returned the next day he was horrified to find that the depression was now filled with blood. But he also thought it was curious, there was a sapling growing amidst this blood.
He decided to quit working on the monument and would see what would happen.
Ten years later he returned to this stop. Where the sapling once was there was now a tree that extended into the sky so far that he could not see the top. The blood was still there and now there were Cherry Blossom trees growing all around the field. At first he thought it strange.
He one day decided to take one of the trees back to his wife, as a wedding anniversary present. He stuck his spade into the ground and was shocked with blood began poring out of the hole he had dug.
It was not that he noticed that some of the trees were moving, nah they were monsters. He never returned from this trip and no one was ever able to find him.
But since that day, no matter the season, the Cherry Blossom trees are always flowering and the monsters are ever present.
It was thought that the blood of the many wars fought over these plains is what is feeding the massive tree, and that maybe because of the curse on the land it is spawning these monsters from itself.
No one knows for certain.
